About

What is this blog?

Egregium is a blog about mathematics. Sometimes there are technical posts about certain mathematical concepts that I find interesting. Sometimes there are subjective posts with my opinions on the general topics of math and art. Sometimes there are news or review posts about other things happening in the math and art world. Sometimes there are personal posts about something I’m working on at the moment.  However, even the mathematical posts are written for a non-technical audience.

What does ‘Egregium’ mean?

Egregium is Latin for ‘remarkable’. Many mathematicians have a favorite theorem. Mine is Gauss’ Theorema Egregium. I enjoy thinking about higher dimensions.

Who are you?

My name is Nicholas. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a B.S. in Mathematics. Since graduating, I have been working in the Integrated Systems Laboratory at the Beckman Research Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Most of my work involves CAVE immersive virtual reality, mathematical visualization, and art.
